New Map Explorer reveals changing streets where our ancestors once lived

If you really want to enrich the story of the lives of your ancestors then TheGenealogist has released a new Map Explorer that promises to help family historians do just this by shedding light on where our ancestors once lived. Also of great use for people tracing the history of their houses, this Map Explorer is a powerful tool with georeferenced historical maps that can overlay several modern Ordnance Survey, Open Street Maps and a satellite view maps.

The near future will see some extra developments made that will add the ability to locate owners and occupiers from TheGenealogist’s National Tithe Map Collection as well as other map collections as they are uploaded to the website. At launch, the new Map Explorer included all the previously released Lloyd George Domesday Survey maps linked to the field books and, as new data from other areas come online, they will be released in this map viewer. The Map Explorer is not, however, simply just a way of viewing the Lloyd George Survey data – it is a tool that can be used to identify land occupation over time.
