Steve Parrish

Doesn't Giacomo Agostini still look great for an old fella? He was at a do I went to at Brooklands recently. He does some TV work for Italian Sky, and he goes to as many rounds as he can. Not bad at 74 years old. Anyway, do you know he never really hurt himself when he was racing? He cut his leg once, and that was about it. Which is ridiculous when you consider the tracks he was riding on for over a decade, ones that most of his mates died on. Yeah, he had the best bike for a while so didn't always have to push, but then he had some quick team-mate in Mike Hailwood and Phil Read who he had to beat too. And he had to try hard when he jumped on the Yamaha two-stroke, and he won on that as well. The man's a legend. Fit as a fiddle he is, I can only hope I'm the same when I hit his age!

I've been watching a lot of motorcycle racing this month, and happy as I am looking at the results, it's all been a bit dreary at times. Old Rossi, they just got the bike out of the truck at Jerez and it worked, he was on it all weekend while everyone else was off it. Nobody but Rossi could find any grip on those new Michelins, but a lot of that is to do with getting your systems right, and Vale's lads nailed it. It's only one race though, there's a long way to go although that will help his confidence no end – especially at places like Le Mans that haven't been kind to him over recent years. MotoGP is looking really unpredictable right now. Well, unpredictable, but still with the same four riders we expected to be up there. Not even Dani Pedrosa can get a look in.
