1994 SUZUKI RGV250 VJ22

This month’s Addiction is a modern twist on an old-school throwback… RGV style!

WORDS: PRETTY BOY PICS: GARY’ THECHAP’ MAN

That rasping sound, the addictive smell and that rush of the power band is a blistering reimagination of the youth that is still inside me, and just a few of the reasons why 1 own a Suzuki RGV250. This one specifically really caught my eye as it started out as a road race bike over in Ireland. I shipped it over and rebuilt it myself but unfortunately we discovered the engine wasn’t performing properly after an initial dyno run - which meant a trip to see Sean at the Tuning Works. We found it had seized and then freed off but left the rings stuck fast in the piston plus the exhaust valve actuator wasn’t working properly meaning we had work to do! Over the course of the next few weeks the engine was fully rebuilt with Vertex racing pistons, re-plated cylinders, Cougar Red Power valves, Cougar Red racing heads, and a Zeeltronic ignition system. We didn’t forget about the handling either, giving the RGV an Andreani adjustable cartridge kit for the forks in the process. The heads, valves and Zeeltronic should add both drive and peak power without sacrificing reliability, although I still need to finish running the bike in and tweak the settings once done. TTW also fitted a quick action throttle, which makes it easier to get on full throttle. It’s currently running on a Silkolene Comp 2 Plus on a premix ratio of 36/1, and all the bodywork is TYGA, supplied by jap4perfomance.
