HOMETOWN: Mansfield, England

DEBUT: 2009

BEST RESULT: 4 wins, 6 podiums

FASTEST LAP: 116.798mph

PASSENGER: Tom Birchall

The Birchalls have, arguably, established themselves as the combination to beat in the Sidecar TT races with the last two years seeing them win three of the four races and claim the outright lap record at close to 117mph. Crucially, they’re able to lap in excess of 116mph right from the off and throughout the three laps so they’re undoubtedly going to take some stopping this year. They know what it’s like to endure tough times on the Island as well so won’t be resting on their laurels but with a total of four wins, and two more podiums, they’ll be keen to add to that tally and further prove themselves as the current three-wheel Kings of the Mountain.

HOMETOWN: Andreas, Isle of Man

DEBUT: 1985

BEST RESULT: 17 wins, 29 podiums

FASTEST LAP: 116.785mph

PASSENGER: Daniel Sayle

With his TT career having got under way more than 30 years ago, Manxman Molyneux is still hungry for success and after a torrid time in 2016, he’s determined to stand on the top step of the podium once more and add to his already record total of victories and podiums. He’s already taken 17 wins, comfortably the most on three wheels, and only bettered by Joey Dunlop and John McGuinness on the overall chart, but last year saw him fail to start the first race and then retire from the second. He switches to Yamaha power for 2017 when he’ll again have Dan Sayle, an eight times winner, in the chair.

Ben and Tom Birchall (IEG Honda) celebrate winning the second Sidecar TT race on the Isle of Man.

HOMETOWN: Blackburn, England

DEBUT: 1988

BESTRESULT: 2 wins, 15 podiums

FASTESTLAP: 116.041mph

Despite being close to 60, John Holden is showing no signs of slowing down and last year saw him claim his second TT win with victory in the opening encounter. Just for good measure he also took the runner-up spot in the second race to claim overall victory and make it 15 podiums in total. All but one of those podiums came with Andy Winkle in the chair but the Blackburn driver has made a change for 2017 with Lee Cain coming on board. The Manxman has lapped at more than 112mph though and finished fourth with Karl Bennett last year so should be able to make the step up and enable Holden to push for a third TT victory.

HOMETOWN: Bradford, England
