New research indicates that the traditional belief that couples trying for a baby should focus their efforts during the fertile window in a woman’s cycle may not be the best approach. Instead, people should be aiming to have sex every day, better preparing the female immune system for pregnancy. Doing so could also reduce the stressful – and passion-killing – element of frantically tracking ovulation whilst attempting to get pregnant. Whilst ovulation occurs around the fourteenth day of the cycle, the egg only survives for approximately 24 hours, and ideally should be introduced to sperm during this time in order to be fertilised. However, trying to time intercourse to coincide exactly with this process can be extremely difficult and a surefire way to kill sex drive in both partners.
