Ain’t nobody like CHAKA

As she readies a new album and powers through a summer of UK tour dates, Gay Times speaks to the iconic Chaka Khan about classic hits like I’m Every Woman and I Feel for You, the loyalty of her LGBT+ fans, and why she’s (probably) done with men.

Within about a minute of calling Chaka Khan, Gay Times has learned two things about this ten-time Grammy Award winner: she answers her own phone, and she doesn’t do bullshit.

Chaka’s playing a series of UK tour dates this summer, so we ask whether, in her 47 years of live experience, British audiences can be a bit tricky to warm up. “Oh, I never had any problem with that,” she replies, casual as you like. “Anywhere outside of America, I find a bigger appreciation level. The audience here is listening, really listening – I find anywhere in Europe better than America, actually.” Well, there we are.
