Courtney Act

Never one to rest on pretty, Drag Race alumna Courtney Act has a new talent to show off. Fresh from the pages of Magnus Hastings’ new book, Why Drag?, Australia’s finest export reveals all - literally - about the sexualisation of drag, gender identity and her own journey of self-acceptance.

I think the technical phrase for the photos is NSFW,” Courtney howls, moments into meeting us. Strolling the streets of New York City as we chat, the Australian drag superstar is back in our hallowed pages to mark the release of Why Drag? – the new book from photographer Magnus Hastings. And one that features a rather naked Courtney, as you can see...

But these photos, taken by Magnus back in 2014, almost didn’t see the light of day, as Courtney explains: “Some of the excuses for not running them were like, ‘Oh, they’re too gay for a straight magazine.’ Or, ‘They’re too straight for a gay magazine.’”
