Britain ‘needs to go on a diet’, health officials from Public Health England said recently. More specifically, Britain needs to go on a calorie-controlled diet.

They cited evidence that children are eating an extra meal’s worth of calories every day, and we are in the grip of an obesity crisis. They argue that obesity has become ‘the norm’, and have told restaurants, retailers and manufacturers to cut calorie counts by one-fifth by 2024, and set calorie limits of 400 for breakfast, 600 for lunch and 600 for dinner for us.
