Ever wondered how kettlebells earned their kudos among Lycra-clad fitness influencers? Luisa Valenti, healthy’s own fitness expert, can hazard a guess. ‘The kettlebell swing is a great butt exercise,’ she says. ‘And, when it’s performed correctly, the core will get a serious workout, too.’
But perfecting this move has further benefits than helping you look good in your leggings. ‘The kettlebell swing is an explosive exercise, which helps to improve cardiovascular fitness, as well as strengthening the posterior chain (the group of muscles at the back of the body), particularly the glutes and hamstrings,’ Valenti says. Before you try to tackle more complicated variations, she explains how to master the basic two-arm swing.
