It’s satisfying to see my vision come to life
Interior designer Rebecca Hadley wanted to test her skill with a new project, and a dark, dank flat in North London was just the ticket
Welcome to my home
A bit about me
Hi, I’m Rebecca Hadley and I own an interior design company called Make My House Home. Our motto is: ‘it takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home’.
Where I live
It’s a period multi-level flat in North London with two bedrooms. My friend rents a room – it’s great fun.
What I wanted to change
Everything! The flat was so dingy with a poor layout; it felt really dark and boxy. The only thing I liked was its potential.
How I made it my own
‘My home makes people realise that they can be a bit daring with design and colour – it’s about being brave enough’
I designed it to be part of a whole Mondrian/ primary colour design concept. The use of white with thin black outlines and pops of primary colour is so simple, yet so effective
My favourite part
I love that as soon as I walk in the door I feel like I’m home.

My flat
‘A few weeks after I moved in, I remember sitting in the garden, looking back at the house and thinking that I can’t believe I did it all in just nine months’
Work space
‘I chose this area for my desk simply because it was a great use of space – it fitted perfectly.I also wanted it to be away from any distractions, like the TV and kitchen. I work well when I can write things down and see them in front of me, so the wall behind was ideal for a huge blackboard. I’m able to think much more creatively when I am using tactile things rather than just a screen.’
