THE TACTICAL EDGE

THE MARK MCCOUN AND SON DP5 AND SIDEKICK COMBINE FOR FIELD AND WARTIME EXCELLENCE.

A soldier depends on the tools they carry, because it could mean their life.

Several months back, a few service members approached me about their favorite tools to carry on deployment. They came into my dojo, and we began an in-depth conversation on weapon tactics and which weapons are the most useful to have on hand.

One of these soldiers promptly pulled out a McCoun knife that had obviously seen some action. The handle was worn, and the inish on the edge was chipped and beaten. However, it was still completely serviceable.

After practicing a few kata with it, I realized I needed to get ahold of the craftsman behind the McCoun blade. Following a few months of telephone calls, e-mails and messaging, the company lent me one of its new knife designs, the DP5, and a tomahawk, the Sidekick, to try out for myself.
