In 1986 Tom Cruise’s career took-off – literally. He became an overnight sensation in the box-office hit Top Gun. Since then, he’s played the action hero in the Mission: Impossible series, the heartthrob in Jerry Maguire, and he was critically acclaimed for his performance as a wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran in Born on the Fourth of July. Behind the camera, he’s produced many of the films he’s starred in. In 2005 a Hollywood commentator called Tom “one of the most powerful – and richest – forces in Hollywood.” The actor’s career looked indestructible.
