A vine time in England
If there’s anything to fuel the British dream of a glorious summer, it’s remembering that our nation is just about warm enough to produce wine – and it’s good (just ask the Queen, who serves it at Buckingham Palace). This month, as growing season gets underway, English Wine Week returns to showcase some of our finest oenological offerings. Vineyards across the land throw open their doors for tours and tastings, while pubs and restaurants shine the spotlight on homegrown wines. In the wine heartland of the southeast, for example, Kent Vineyard will host hands-on tours, before lunch at a historic pub. Events also include an exhibition of more than 200 sculptures in Oxfordshire’s Bothy Vineyard – the country’s oldest – and tastings at Renishaw Hall in Derbyshire, one of the world’s most northerly growers.
