BELLA UNION
The creators of Netflix’s wonderfully endearing Sex Education series came to Ezra Furman with a pitch: ‘We want you to be the Simon & Garfunkel to our The Graduate’. Did Ezra succeed? Almost resoundingly. Lyrically, Furman elevates the hormone induced angst unique to Gen Z sensibilities: “I watch you from the adjacent coffee table/ At the Starbucks they built inside my heart”. The electric guitar melodies unite episodes together with headbang-your-heart-out youthful defiance. Sometimes, songs don’t match the tone of what is being shown, playing it a little too light or a little too safe, but ultimately it’s hard to imagine this charming series without Furman at its musical helm.
