Bowie’s Golden discs
Four new vinyl releases for Bowie aficionados – including a pair of collectable gold discs
Record Store Day was pretty exciting for Bowie fans, but June is set to be the best month of the year with four – four! – special new vinyl releases. First up, Parlophone’s ongoing series of picture discs celebrating the 40th anniversary of each of Bowie’s singles reaches Be My Wife. Originally the second single from Low, it will be backed by a previously unreleased live recording of Art Decade, recorded when the Isolar II tour arrived at the Perth Entertainment Centre in Australia on 15 November 1978. The photos on both sides of the disc come from Paris in June 1977 and the archives of Christian Simonpietri. There’s also a two-track red vinyl version of I’m Afraid Of Americans, its sleeve depicting Bowie in front of a wall in Mexico City, taken by Mexican photographer Fernando Aceves. Trent Reznor’s V1 Edit is on the A-side, with a rare acoustic live version of Heroes from the Shoreline Amphitheatre in California on 20 October 1996 on the B-side.
