Back–up alternatives
> MAC CLONING APPS and Time Machine can also do regular system backups, but if your backup is in the same place as your Mac and there’s a break–in or other disaster you can lose your data. That’s why it’s wise to also have an external, off-site backup. Cloud services are great for that.
Apple’s iCloud is the obvious choice for many, but you’ll need to pay for a decent amount of storage: 50GB or 200GB isn’t enough for our Photos library, let alone the rest of our data. iCloud is great but it’s important to remember that it’s a synchronization service, not a backup service. If a file is accidentally deleted, replaced or corrupted that change will be copied to all devices when they next connect. A better option may be a service such as CrashPlan (crashplan.com), which works like a normal backup program but stores everything in the cloud.
