> AIRDROP TIME LIMIT AirDrop in iOS 16.2 and up imposes a ten–minute limit on receiving content from Everyone — after this time, it will automatically reset to receive from Contacts Only. The time limit was first applied in China, reportedly to help the government impede the sharing of dissenting materials, but is now global and will combat the “AirDrop bombing” by strangers of offensive, indecent, or other unwanted content.
> CSAM PLAN DROPPED Apple has dropped plans to scan uploads and users’ albums for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Bowing to pressure from privacy advocates, Apple said: “We have decided to not move forward with our previously proposed CSAM detection tool for iCloud Photos. Children can be protected without companies combing through personal data, and we will continue working with governments, child advocates, and other companies to help protect young people, preserve their right to privacy, and make the internet a safer place for children and for us all.”
