The trail may be beautiful, but the sightseeing can wait.

At one point in the Miwok 100K in northern California, the course runs past a viewpoint looking out over the Golden Gate bridge, one of the world’s most iconic sights. It would have been probably a 20-second detour to get up on to the brow of the hill to take it all in. Yet 18 miles into the race, there was no way I was making that detour. Even at that stage, every step was a matter of self-preservation, of conserving energy. Besides, no one else was detouring. So we made do with glimpsing the topmost part of the bridge over the grassy knoll and kept on along the trail. Sightseeing would have to wait for another day.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. A phrase, I’m sure, that can be applied to you and your running journey.
