ON NOVEMBER 19, news broke that Hans-Erik Dyvik Husby, known to the world as Hank von Helvete, had died aged 49. Known for his time fronting beloved and influential Norwegian death-punks Turbonegro, Hank was one of metal’s most idiosyncratic personalities.
Born on June 15, 1972, the singer joined Turbonegro in 1993, ahead of the release of their second album, Never Is Forever (1994). He’d go on to appear on a further five Turbonegro records, including 1996 cult hit Ass Cobra, which birthed songs covered by Therapy? (Denim Demon) and Satyricon (I Got Erection), and 2003 comeback album Scandinavian Leather, which featured in Metal Hammer’s 100 Greatest Metal Albums Of The 21st Century.
