SO JEREMY CLARKSON does not like the
MG6. In fact, in the Sunday Times at the
end of May, the Top Gear bully-boy
savaged the car from top to bottom, ending by
giving it just one star out of five. The report
reeked of bile rather than facts, but we’ve long
known that if a particular comment will get
Clarkson attention and a laugh, in it goes.
In his so-called review, Clarkson manages to
stall the MG6 Magnette and is unable to restart
it. Conveniently, cameras are on hand to
capture the ‘hilarious’ sight of Clarkson pushing
it to the side of the road. But how many times
have we seen staged disasters on Top Gear?
Too many for me to take anything he says at
face value. For example, he complains at length
that the MG6 cup holder would spill drink over
a passenger’s leg when you open it because it
is not damped. Quite how the magical Mr
Clarkson gets a drink into a cup holder before it
is opened is beyond me...
Is the MG6 perfect? No, of course it is not,
and yes it is possible that the car he tested was
faulty – these things can happen. Sadly though,
there was no attempt at any meaningful test or
useful description in the Sunday Times article.
In the end his puerile rantings told us more
about Clarkson than they did about the MG6.
In total contrast, we have a feature this
month on John Rogers, who bought a brand
new MG6 Magnette just a few weeks ago. John
is not famous so his comments will not make
the motoring pages of a national newspaper let
alone get aired on TV, but John lives in the real
world and he buys cars with his own money.
He is also a genuine motoring enthusiast rather
than a celebrity buffoon, so if you want to see
what a real person thinks of the new MG, turn
to page 54 of this issue.

MG Enthusiast

I look forward to receiving my copy each month when it arrives in my post box, however since covid19 & no flights from the UK, I haven't seen a copy for months now.
I am happy to be able to read the online version but do prefer the hard back copy which I collect !
