Istanbul—Two women flee from Atatürk airport on June 28. Three suicide bombers attacked the airport, killing at least 44 people. Another 238 people were wounded in the shooting and bombing, which Turkey blamed on Islamic State (ISIS) militants from Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. It was the latest in a series of attacks in NATO member Turkey, which is cooperating with U.S. forces in the clash against ISIS in Syria but is also a transit route for thousands of foreign combatants coming from Europe and elsewhere to fight in the conflict. Most of those killed were Turks, but the victims included citizens of Saudi Arabia, Iraq and China, among other places.
