Xinmo, China— Days after a landslide crashed through this village, killing at least 10 and leaving more than 90 missing, relatives mourned as thousands of rescue workers dug through the rubble on June 26, looking for survivors. Heavy rain triggered the landslide in Sichuan province, and some villagers told Reuters the government knew the area was prone to natural disasters but didn’t help the villagers move. Government officials disputed that accusation. Either way, many here are now left with nothing. “Our house was somewhere around here,” one resident told Reuters, “but everything has been destroyed beyond recognition.”
