Extra cash for computing science and digital skills

A £250,000 funding pot supporting computing science and digital skills for young people has been increased by £150,000.

The Scottish Government’s Digital Xtra Fund was launched in May 2016 to develop digital skills and make extracurricular computing science activities available to all young people aged 16 and under, whatever their background and wherever they live in Scotland. In August the fund awarded £250,000 to 12 projects supporting diverse activities including the use of wildlife cameras to help school pupils learn to code using Raspberry Pi computers, coding taught through local libraries and a forensic investigation project. The additional £150,000 was made available as a result of the high number of applications received for the first round of funding.

Applications are open until November 4 via Public Contracts Scotland and eligible organisations can bid for grants from £1,500 to a maximum £25,000 per project.
