With the Easter weekend seeing a significant rise in the number of people visiting to Oban, it has again brought the amount of traffic on the A85, and the safety of the road, into sharp focus.
For those who live locally and use the A85 regularly, many will be have been dreading the increase in motorists – those who back up traffic due to their slow progress, as well as those drivers who, impatient and frustrated, take chances with their own lives as well as their fellow road users in order to get where they want a few minutes faster.
And that is why The Oban Times’ campaign to make the road safer – Stay Alive on the A85 – is so vital. We make no apology for wanting to improve road safety by seeking a reduction in the speed limit and double white lines along the entire length of road between Connel and Oban, or to create a layby at Pennyfuir cemetery to increase safety for the grieving.
