A GROUP of eight Fort William ladies took on Tough Mudder at the weekend to raise money for a charity ‘close to their hearts’. Anne Wallace, Rebecca Grant, Mhairi Clelland, Stephanie Clelland, Gail Bilsland, Tammy Mcghee, Vicki MacLeod and Rebecca Maclean took on the challenge and won.
Anne told the Lochaber Times: ‘Rebecca G, my hairdresser, told me she and two of her sisters had signed up for Tough Mudder, and I had always wanted to tackle the challenge. I asked a few more details and found out it was taking place in Thornhill, Dumfries-shire, so thought it a sign as my late mum had grown up there. When I found out it was on June 17 I knew it was meant to be as my mum’s birthday was June 19, so I signed up too. We chose the Macmillan Nurses Charity as it’s something close to our hearts and we all have personal experience of the amazing work they do.’ Another close friend unfortunately didn’t get a chance to try this challenge, having lost her own battle with cancer. And so the group set out to raise £750. ‘We all started at 10am and finished four hours later. The course length was just over 11 miles and the obstacles ranged from a mud crawl under barbed wire, a chute which led to an ice bath, wall climbs ranging in height from six to eight feet and a monkey bar challenge. But we all completed it with teamwork, sheer grit and determination.’
The women are all back home and pleased to report they had raised £2,500, with cash still coming in. They would all like to say a big thank-you and if anyone still wants to donate they can find the link on the Nevis Radio Facebook page or drop in to the Lochy Bar, Caol, or Unique Hair and Beauty in the High Street, Fort William.
