Welcome to our amazing April issue. This month, we’ve got another fantastic selection of stories, anatomy, yoga instruction and lifeaffirming good ies to fuel your practice on and off the mat.
If it’s yoga you’re after, then check out the energising spring reawakening sequence (Blossoming Into Joy, page 30) by the talented Lizzie Reumont (thanks Lizzie!). Or brush up on your boat pose with our very own dynamic Doctor Yogi, who’ll guide you through the intricacies of this challenging asana (360º Yoga, page 38). Very soon, you’ll be yelping with joy when your instructor calls out ‘Navasana’ (boat pose) in class, instead of shirking away at the back. Possibly.
If it’s yoga controversy you seek, then take a peek at our OM Meets interview (page 34) with New York-based Saskia Thode, the pioneer of Metal Bones Yoga, which fuses yoga with heavy metal. When BKS Iyengar noted that ‘yoga is like music’, he maybe had some different tunes in mind than Metallica. But we think it’s inspiring: a powerful, creative yoga woman pioneering in a new area. We’d love to know what you think.
We’ve also got a special report on some of the hottest yoga retreats in 2018. Check out the guide (starting on page 58) for retreat ideas in the UK, Europe and all around the world. If you’re planning your summer holidays right now then you’re definitely in the right place. (And, if not, don’t worry: there’s a home retreat guide – The Ultimate Home Retreat Guide – for you on page 124).
