Returning to study as an adult can be a daunting prospect, especially if the last time you hit the books was college or university. There are, however, definite benefits to being an adult learner. You tend to know more about your individual strengths and weaknesses, will be intrinsically more motivated and can bring real world experience to your study, which often helps to enrich the learning process.
Of course, it’s not only the idea of being a student again that can create feelings of reservation, but also the worry of potentially changing career, stepping out of your comfort zone and how to fit study in alongside work, family and other responsibilities. It’s important to remember that every learner, adult or otherwise, will naturally go through an adjustment period as they settle into study, so there is nothing wrong with needing some time to settle and feel comfortable as a student again.
