Learn your crat: The excitement of inishing your teacher training course can mean that you want to rush out and start teaching yoga full time. But don’t give up the day job just yet. Full time teaching is not right for everyone, and even if it is your ultimate dream to do so, there is no need to do this straight away. Give yourself some time to grow your teaching skills. This will allow you to really explore who you want to be as a teacher, and where your passions lie. It will also mean you can start to build your reputation and your tribe of loyal students. If and when the time comes for you to move into yoga being your full-time career, you will then have a really strong foundation that just needs to expand a little, rather than starting to build a business from scratch with no other income.
Invest in business training: Going on endless yoga courses will not grow your business, and being a great teacher is not enough. You need to focus on learning the real-world skills of running a business. In most cases, you are responsible for everything that needs to happen, whether that is marketing, customer service, inance – you name it, you do it! Investing wisely in business support and knowledge will help you to grow your business at a much quicker rate and give you a much faster return on investment than yoga teaching focused courses will. This is one area where teachers often fail to spend enough time, money and energy. If you are serious about being a yoga business owner, then you need to be serious about developing your business skills.
hink outside the box (or class): Most of us start our yoga teaching careers with classes - and this is a great way to hone your skills, to build your reputation as a teacher and to have a degree of inancial stability each month. But in the long term, only teaching classes can lead to burn out and not enough money to live on. You might have a skill, passion or niche that demands a higher payment for your time. There is so much scope in where you can take you teaching, so get cr eative and find some ideas that would serve you better inancial ly and ener getically in your yoga business.
Planning: I know this doesn’t sound exciting, especially if you are a free spirit, but learning how to plan efectively is essential to having an abundant and ful illing business. Without pl anning you can be consumed in the day-to-day (with a never-ending to-do list, and feeling overwhelmed) and not take any steps towards your bigger dreams. I recommend having everyday pl anning for time and ener gy management, and mid- to longer-term planning to make sure you are taking consistent small steps towards your dreams and aspirations.
