Spinach is an amazing superfood that everyone should eat (not just Popeye!). Here are some recipes to make your spinach even more super

Spinach is an annual plant which is thought to have originated in South East Asia – the name is believed to come from the old French espinache, via Arabic from the Persian aspānāk.

Spinach is simply crammed with nutrients while being low in calories (23 calories per 100g). It’s rich in folate which is beneficial to all, but most important to young and pregnant women. Evidence shows that expectant mothers who eat spinach can aid the normal growth of the baby and the formation of the placenta, and young women who may lack folic acid can help replace it with this leafy veg. It’s also been proved folate contributes to good blood cell growth and a healthy immune system as well as protecting against blood clots, heart attacks and strokes.

Spinach has vitamin A which promotes healthy and clear skin and vision and vitamin C which aids the growth of healthy connective tissue to support the organs and also wound healing.
