You may have heard a lot recently about gut health and how fibr e can lead to a ‘happy’ gut. But is this just a new fad or is it something we should be considering? This two-part article (the second part follows in April) is here to explain what fibr e is and how it relates to gut health. (Spoiler alert: it’s not just an empty fad, there is some great scientific evidence supporting this one!)
What is fibre?
Fibre is part of the carbohydrate family and is the name given to the diverse range of compounds found in the cell walls of foods that come from plants. Dietary fibre is the edible parts of the plants that are resistant to digestion and therefore can be absorbed through the small intestine.
