Fad fatigue

Nutrition Zone:
Recent research has revealed that we are becoming increasingly fed up with the latest food trends, put off by the high costs of the latest super foods. Yet it’s clear that the pace and momentum at which fad diets take-off and evolve is astronomical: the ‘free from’ market, for instance, is growing so rapidly that it is expected to be worth £550 million by 2019.
But it seems our appetite for funky food might be fading and, just like the latest fashion trends, our chia seeds may soon be as undesirable as a pair of crocs. Apparently we are now suffering from ‘food fad fatigue’, with 57% of Brits not being bothered by new or alternative foods, and many of us feeling like we just cannot keep up with latest trends. From power shots to quinoa burgers, people are turning their backs on these hipster food fads, seeking an easier and simpler – and cheaper - means to a heal thy lifestyle.
