Katia Vastiau explores the isles of scilly on a luxury swimming holiday

The Isles of Scilly: the promise of turquoise waters, tropical vegetation, abundant marine life and deserted beaches nestled among rocky cliffs… A swimmer’s paradise? yes! The Isles of Scilly delivers all this and much more.

your holiday starts as you park your car for the week. Whether you choose to reach the Scillies by plane and take in the amazing views of the islands from up high, or by boat, you can’t but start to relax immediately.

I chose to sail on the Scillonian ferry from Penzance and enjoyed a lovely three-hour crossing, watching the beautiful Cornish coast disappear and looking out for dolphins and whales. The service is swift and efficient and within half an hour of landing our swimming party was on the next boat for a quick crossing to St Martin’s.

If you need something to look forward to, check out our Travel and Events sections for races and holiday destinations for summer 2017. Elsewhere in the magazine we hear from the Wild Swimming Brothers about their trip to Norway to tackle the world’s biggest whirlpools, and the truly inspirational Sarah Thomas talks to us about her mammoth 80-mile swim in Lake Powell.
