Ella Foote swims with Tristan Gooley, author of How to Read Water

How often have you peered into a body of water, or across to an island off a coastline, and thought – I wonder if I can swim that? If you’re like me, I imagine it happens a lot more than you are conscious of. I have this new habit of slowing down as I drive over bridges that cradle streams and rivers, constantly looking for new swimming spots. I have often been walking beside water and wondered about its depth, temperature and speed of flow, assessing how easy it would be to sink into the inky blackness. I often do just that, immerse myself into the unknown, hoping that my experience and knowledge I have learnt over the years of swimming outside is enough to not surprise me. According to Natural Navigator and author of How to Read Water, Tristan Gooley, when we take the time to pay attention and look for patterns in the outdoors we can solve puzzles in nature more easily than we might think.
