These items are considered the basics of plant based cooking, and if you’re new to leading plant based diet, these are perfect to add to your shopping list. These items are easily found in supermarkets and health food shops, and are often inexpensive items that are tinned or have long use-by dates on, making them ideal to keep in your pantry or kitchen cupboards.

CHICKPEAS
An essential item in your cupboard is chickpeas. They can be added to curries, used to make falafel and houmous, and the aquafaba can be used for meringues and a range of other dishes. They are available in tins in any UK supermarket, and they are versatile with many uses. Chickpeas are a good source of carbohydrate and protein, with high levels of fibre also. You can pick up a tin of chickpeas for around 50p from all UK supermarkets.
