Looking to get round the recent ruling that non-dairy alternative foods shouldn’t be named as milks or cheeses, Rebel Kitchen have boldly named their latest products as ‘Mylk’, a clear play-on-words with the traditional animal product.
With black and white cartons mimicking their non-plant based competition, Mylk is made from a blend of six ingredients, including coconut milk (which escapes the aforementioned naming restrictions) and comes in three varieties: whole, semi skimmed and skimmed.
In line with their rebellious name, the company are clearly trying to challenge the norm which is to buy cow’s milk, by presenting their plant based alternative in copycat packaging. Rebel Kitchen cofounder Tamara Arbib explained: “We’ve all grown up shopping the milk aisle based on our preference for the red, green or blue tops. Then when entering the plant based arena, you have to make a decision from almond through to soya, but none of them are really delivering on taste — until now.”
