PowerTorque  |  Issue 78

Welcome to PowerTorque, home of the latest technology in trucks and trailers.

With 90 years of history, Lopez Transport makes a great choice for our front cover, with the immaculate Western Star that driver Danny Lopez has steered to over 1.4 million kilometres. We pay our tribute to the company still in business today.

Join us as we revue Mercedes-Benz with its new rigid truck range, the introduction of the International brand and upgrades to DAF, IVECO, MAN, Hino, Isuzu, Fuso and Scania.

The Kenworth T610 is now well and truly out in the real world and we interview the Hi-Quality Group for some first hand comment on how this latest Kenworth if fitting in to the fleet.

In other news we profile the Calcimo Lime Fleet and with Betts Transport on livestock and general freight and Rankin Transport, plus PACCAR’s European contender the DAF CF 75 in 8x4 configuration with East Coast Scaffolding, where low tare weight and great driver satisfaction are all part of the appeal. Mark Mazza discusses why Scania is the pick of the range for South West Express of Bunbury.

Operators in the Tamworth area now have a new choice in truck service and maintenance with the opening of the Glen Artney truck repair centre. Further afield and West Australia is the home of TATRA, a brand the Czech Republic that needs little introduction for those working in off road drilling and mining areas.
Also in WA we find MAN’s D38 going well on road train work with Bitutek, while on the East Coast, Brenton O’Connor and Ed Higginson pair up for their turn in the latest Hino 500 Series. We also kept Brenton busy evaluating the IVECO EuroCargo as we profile the latest technology available from Cummins with the X12 and X15.

If you believe that most of those hauling caravans and horse floats are running over weight, then our feature on the latest RAM 2500 and 3500 Utes should provide the perfect tow alternative.
