On October 1, Iamthemorning vocalist Mariana Semkina will release the follow-up to Sleepwalking, her 2020 solo debut. Combining dark folk with elements of electronica, her EP Disillusioned features three new songs and two covers – Ne Hagyg Itt (sung in Hungarian) and Land Míns Föður (in Icelandic). Semkina says these are “a homage to two places I’ve visited many times and love going to – Iceland and Hungary. I have huge respect for different languages so paid a lot of attention in getting everything right.”
The UK-based artist recently revealed that, having flown to her native Russia for a week-long trip, she got stuck there for months when the country closed its borders due to the pandemic. This, she says, “led to quite a bad depression. But after relocating back to the UK I got my second breath, got out of depression and got back to music.”
