My eldest son was born in 2008 and, when he was 18 months old, I went back to my job as a teaching assistant. Soon after that, my partner and I split up. As a single parent, my career was important to provide my son with the security he deserved. Over the next few years, I worked 60 to 70 hours a week, completing my teacher training and working my way up to head of department.
