Travelling from Bundy on the Traditional Train
As part of its program to overhaul the two electric tilt trains, QR has been using loco-hauled trains to replace some Brisbane to Rockhampton tilt train services, allowing one of the tilt sets to be overhauled at Downer’s Maryborough plant. Rod Milne explains why he actually prefers travelling the ‘traditional’ way.

New containerised log traffic ex-Goulburn
Shane O’Neil takes a look at a new containerised log train operation based at Goulburn, in the NSW Southern Tablelands, that began on Thursday 14 July, operated by QUBE for New Zealand Company, International Primary Products Ltd, bringing logs to Port Botany for export to China, India, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

Impressions of a Tilt Train
Not all rail travellers were impressed when the QR Diesel Tilt Train, or Spirit of Queensland to give it its proper title, replaced the locomotive-hauled Sunlander in October 2013. New South Welshman Ron Brown, however, very much enjoyed his recent journey from Caboolture to Cairns and return, as he recounts.

The haulage of Gypsum on the Eyre Peninsula: Kevin to Thevenard
Of all the rail operations on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula, GWA’s regular, short-haul operations out of the port of Thevenard to the massive gypsum deposits at Lake MacDonnell/Kevin are possibly one of the most interesting and unique. Shane O’Neil reports.

Swan Hill Memories Part 2: 1982 to 1992
For a railway enthusiast and photographer, Swan Hill in north-eastern Victoria seemed like it was the centre of the rural rail freight universe during the years from 1982 to 1992. It had a Freight Gate and was often blessed with two daily daylight freight /grain services, as well as a passenger service to and from Melbourne. In many ways, it was, as Graham Crichton shows in words and pictures, in the second part of his evocative Remember When piece.
