Henrik Stephansen is a threetime world champion in the men’s lightweight single sculls. Achievement enough, you might think. His illustrious career, which includes world records broken and re-broken on the ergometer, has spanned ten years. Approaching the end of 2013, the Danish sculler was in the form of his life, having become a world champion in Chungju in the men’s lightweight single sculls.
Life is regulated by the series of highs and lows we are afforded, as athletes and as people. Shortly after the summer of 2014, Stephansen was struck down by a herniated disc which could have disabled him for the rest of his life. As the 2015 season reaches its climax, he has not only recovered but is now a strong contender for an Olympic ticket in the Danish LM2x.
