Are they really so super?

Ruth James MSc, MBA, BSc, RD, PGTC is a Masters Graduate in Applied Sport and Exercise Nutrition from Oxford Brookes University (2016) and a registered sports dietitian.

The past five years has seen a big rise in popularity of so-called “superfoods” with much corresponding media interest. Specialist cook books, dedicated magazines, websites and television programs have all contributed to the hype. One search engine recorded over 24,000 hits per month on the topic and in a recent survey of more than 1,000 UK adults, 61% admitted to buying a food because they considered it a “superfood”.
