‘I’ve fallen back in love with food’

For Elena Williams, it was always all or nothing…until she realised she could lose weight without crash dieting. Here she explains how finding balance brought her energy, self-confidence and the figure she’d always wanted

ELENA WEARS: Dress, Anita & Green. Shoes, Lisa Kay London. Earrings, Dower & Hall. Hat, stylist’s own

Elena Williams, 28, works for Victim Support. She lives in Port Talbot, Neath Port Talbot, with her husband, Neil, and their sons, Ben, six, and Max, two

Height: 5ft 7ins

Starting weight: 11st 4lbs

Weight now: 9st 4lbs

Elena is a target member of Graham Gibbs’ Slimming World group in Port Talbot

At my biggest, I reckon I could have won an Oscar for best actress. I played the part of the cheerful pub landlady so well that even my own husband didn’t have a clue I was deeply unhappy. The regulars would sometimes comment on my curves, teasing me about having failed at yet another diet – and I laughed along with them like a good sport. It was all an act, though. The real me was shy, quiet and hated being the centre of attention, particularly when everyone felt they could make jokes about my size. Too embarrassed to confide in anyone about how low I was feeling, I cheered myself up the only way I knew how: by reaching for crisps, chocolate or cake.
