1:35 FLAK 88 GUN EMPLACEMENT DIORAMA

When Germany occupied Europe during WWII, they built the Atlantic Wall to defend against a possible amphibious landing by the Allies. They built thousands of concrete emplacements along the French coastline. However, when the Allies dropped paratroopers behind enemy lines, it caught many of the German troops by surprise and things descended into chaos. As a result, they abandoned most of their belongings, including their pets, hence the title of this diorama; ‘I Guess Your Master Must Have Left In A Hurry’.

IDEA

Many gun emplacement dioramas have been created over the years, but the one that sparked my interest the most was in the Verlinden Diorama Book, published back in the late ‘80s. The company released a resin gun emplacement in 1:35 and used the Tamiya 88mm Flak to form a beautiful diorama. However, this product is no longer available, and as a result, I had to build the entire emplacement by scratch. Due to the nature of my job, I’m able to access a number of different model making materials, and I finally decided upon using ‘polyurethane foam’ to construct the base
