The Artist  |  March 2025
As the new year gets under way we hope that you are still managing to stick to some of your New Year’s resolutions. To help you keep on track with your painting progress, this issue of The Artist is packed with information and projects to try. Grahame Booth begins the first of three articles on using source material wisely to help create better watercolour paintings, focusing on photographs, which can be both a blessing and a curse for artists. Alan Bickley offers advice on how to establish a good sketchbook routine, and Julie Dunster gets out into the cold to paint a beachside scene in oils, with some good ideas on how to manage your painting kit in inclement weather.
For those who prefer to stay in the warm, Paul Weaver demonstrates an interior scene using water-soluble oils and Paul Talbot-Greaves explains why it’s important to ensure your acrylic paintings are structurally sound before you add the finishing touches. Sarah Edmonds continues her history-of-art series with a focus on the Pre-Raphaelite artist, Jane Morris, and Peter Graham, Tusha Sabale and Charles Williams are there to inspire and motivate with some fantastic work.
Enjoy the issue!
