CREATIVE ARTS & CULTURE

WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN BEING PAID TO THINK CREATIVELY & USE YOUR TALENTS?

Whether it’s in our theatres, art galleries and heritage sites, or in the visual arts, design, film and music industries, the UK thrives on creative talent.

As a nation, we invest millions of pounds every year to ensure that popular British culture remains vibrant and diverse. In turn, the creative industries and cultural sector are worth £114.4 billion to the UK economy according to the Department for Culture, Media & Sport Sectors Economic Estimates published in August 2016.

This sector is very broad, offering wide scope for graduates who wish to work here. Job fields include craft; cultural heritage (museums, galleries, permanent collections, libraries, archaeological sites); design; music; literature; digital art; and the performing and visual arts (e.g. theatre and dance).

KEY SKILLS:

CREATIVE ABILITY: You won’t get very far in this industry without it!

COMMERCIAL AWARENESS: In order to make a living in this sector, you have to be able to market your work, or use your skills in a commercial environment.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: You need to be able to manage your expenses and adapt to working within financial strictures.
