ENGINEERING

PUT YOUR PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL SKILLS TO GOOD USE

Engineering is all about products and processes. Engineers apply principles of science, mathematics and technology to the design, manufacture and operation of structures, machines, engines, processes, systems and products. They are involved in everything from healthcare and medicine, to agriculture, construction, the armed forces, transport, energy and sustainability.

There are many different types of engineering, all of which are highly specialised. The sector as a whole is extremely diverse. We look at four of the major engineering industries that graduates can go into — civil, chemical, mechanical and electrical.

KEY SKILLS:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: You need to be able to apply specialised principles of maths and science.

CREATIVITY: Engineering has strong elements of design within it, which requires creative flare.

ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Engineers are confronted with problems and need to work out the best solutions.

TEAMWORK: This is not a solitary discipline — you will work with teams of other engineers, and workers from other sectors.
