LAW IS BOTH A CHALLENGING & REWARDING CAREER PATH

A complex sector which tackles the diverse legal needs of many different clients — law is a dynamic career path. It’s not just as simple as becoming a ‘lawyer’ — the sector is largely made up of solicitors, barristers and paralegals who work very closely together in a range of different environments, from the private sector, to the public domain and the charitable sector.

The legal profession offers a range of services and advice for anyone in need of legal assistance: solicitors are the first point of contact for the client and give advice on how to proceed with a particular case; barristers represent the client in court; and paralegals assist with legal work but are not qualified lawyers.

FOR GRADUATES:

Law is a popular and highly competitive sector. Graduates from any discipline can work here, but qualifying is a lengthy process. Unless you are graduating with a degree in law, you will need to enrol on a postgraduate conversion course. The Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL)/ Common Professional Examination (CPE) is an intensive year-long foundation course in legal knowledge and skills. Graduates can then progress to the vocational stage of legal training to become a solicitor or a barrister.
