New tool helps US-based investment managers branch into UK

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has launched LaunchPlus: US to UK the first dedicated online resource to help established US-based investment managers build a presence in the UK. The tool hosts a suite of information to help managers take their first steps in the UK market without the high price tag. It provides guidance and information on:

• structuring a UK business and choosing the right entity type

• different regulatory regimes: comparing FCA and SEC rules, including a comparison of insider dealing rules, commission arrangements, execution

• key issues such as MiFID2 and the extension of the Senior Managers Regime

• setting up a UK business (from employment law to brand protection)

• operating in the UK, from marketing in the EEA to ongoing filings with Companies House

• understanding the implications of Brexit for your plans and on other business structuring in conjunction with Simmons & Simmons’ market leading Brexit resources.

Simmons & Simmons partner and investment funds specialist, Devarshi Saksena said: “We already see appetite from US-based investment managers who are interested in the UK market but won’t have the local knowledge. The tool provides all the information and guidance they would need on the UK regulatory environment, saving a considerable amount of time and money from the outset. When establishing a UK presence, there will of course be questions surrounding the implications of Brexit. We have developed this product in response to client demand and we believe that, despite Brexit, the majority of the core fundamental advantages in setting up in the UK, such as the UK talent pool, access to UK capital and time zone, will remain unchanged. However, US managers seeking to access continental European clients will need to consider the impact of Brexit, if any, and our market leading Brexit resources can assist with this.”
