Cremona’s Piazza Stradivari contains a statue of the master luthier
The violin making expertise in our beloved city of Cremona is growing by the day. Here are just two examples that epitomise the innovative approaches being taken. First, a group of violin makers are developing a project called ‘Anima’, which seeks to analyse the structure, acoustics and perception of musical instruments. The project brings together artisanal, historical and scientific knowledge, and involves collaboration between workshops, research laboratories and universities.
The second example is ‘Cremona Barocca’. During the 2019 Monteverdi Festival, organised by the Teatro Ponchielli, the study of instruments featured heavily, in the Museo del Violino, the laboratories and the Department of Musicology. This was in addition to the central role played by musical performance, particularly by young artists.
