Our March issue signals the beginning of spring, and what better way to celebrate than with a varied selection of woodworking and woodturning content. In projects and turning, we have the final instalment of Shaun Newman’s luthier’s lute build; Ian Wilkie turns some lovely Japanese Kokeshi dolls; Phil Davy shows how to lay an engineered oak floor; make your very own chessboard with Dremel; Les Thorne’s square box with matching turned knob goes against the grain; and Dave Roberts brings us part 1 of his miniature domed temple build. In our technical section, Robin Gates tells us all about his range of ’tools tweaks and conversions’; Paul Greer teaches us more about the secrets of dendrochronology; in part 3 of his series, Michael Forster looks at scribing and cutting pins for dovetails; and last but not least, Peter Bishop starts this guide to everyday terms and phrases used within and about the timber industry. In terms of features, Anselm Fraser discusses failures in woodworking and how to move on when these happen; in ‘Archive’, Robin Gates looks at a horse-drawn wagon from 68 years ago; in our profile, we meet award-winning furniture designer and maker Ollie Allen; Bob Wyatt’s workshop contains an impressive timber haul, before professional woodworker Paul Nolan shares two of his award-winning inventions with us. On our test bench this month we have the Bosch GAS 18V-10 L Professional wet & dry vacuum, which benefits from high power capacity, compact size and low weight. Next, the Clarke CTS16 254mm table saw represents excellent value for money despite a few minor failings, and the Pony Three-way edging clamp is excellent where access for conventional clamping is difficult. All this and much more in the March 2019 issue of The Woodworker & Good Woodworking, which is now on sale!
